Croston House Children’s Home

Croston House Children’s Home (Thailand) is a small but growing Foundation currently operating in Makrua Chae sub-district of Lamphun province.  The foundation helps Thai children of all ages in need of a good home in a friendly, family environment and is run solely by Glenn and Rosjana Croston, who are both committed to ensuring that they get the best care possible and ultimately complete their education.

Founded in Banglamung district in Chonburi province on 1 June 2005 and granted Foundation status in Thailand on 11 October 2006, there is accommodation for up to thirty children at any one time.

The children residing at the Home come from a number of different provinces, from Chonburi in central Thailand to Chiang Rai in the north, and although very few of them are orphans by definition, they are all from families that have experienced difficulties.

Children at the Home come from family backgrounds with issues such as drug and alcohol dependency, HIV/AIDS and other illnesses, one or both parents in prison and families families in various types of financial crises that prevent them from being able  to pay for their child’s education and other needs.

Croston House Children’s Home has cared for forty-four needy children so far in less than three and a half years. All the children go to local government-run schools or playgroups and Glenn has managed to find school scholarship sponsors for most of them. The Foundation has no religious affiliations and maintains a secular stance.

Some of the hill- tribe children are Christians, there is one Muslim boy living at the Home and most of the other children are Buddhists.

The current home officially opened in Lamphun on 12 August 2006 and Glenn and Rosjana are presently using two adjacent properties on an initial three-year lease in a small village five minutes by car from the main Chiang Mai – Lamphang highway and about half an hour’s drive from the centre of Chiang Mai.

That lease has recently been extended to take them up to 1 August 2010, when it is hoped that sufficient funds will have been raised to enable them to move the children to a purpose-built home on the Foundation’s own land.

The Foundation is currently being funded through regular monthly or quarterly cash donations from just three companies based in or near Laemchabang Industrial Estate, in Chonburi province. They are also fortunate enough to have other friends in Thailand who make regular donations of food, toiletries, children’s clothing and cleaning materials which are most appreciated and they also have a number of donation boxes around Chiang Mai, Pattaya and Banchang that provide the Foundation with another regular source of funding.
