FORDEC
Foundation for the Rehabilitation and Development of Children and Family
This organisation was formed on Valentines Day 1998 in response to the extreme hardship that befell millions of people in Thailand following the 1997 economic crisis.
FORDEC is the creation of Dr. Amporn Wathanavongs who was born in a remote area of Thailand and grew up homeless, without knowing his parents and without hope.
Through sheer grit and determination Dr. Amporn succeeded in changing his stars, educating himself and then worked for over 25 years with an International child welfare organisation.
Dr. Amporn has devoted most of his life to helping others so that they would not have to suffer as he did.
FORDEC’s principle areas of activity are:
- Child development daycare centre
- Ensuring the general welfare of children and preparing them for compulsory education
- Nutritional lunch program
- Combating malnutrition through the provision of meals, milk and other nutritional supplements
- Education and development program for poor students in Thailand
- Sponsoring education from primary through to vocational level and University
- Occupational family development program
- Vocational training and micro-financing to families
