Soi Dog Foundation

Based in Phuket, Soi Dog is a non-profit organisation that works to improve the lives and living conditions of stray dogs and cats.

Soi Dog Foundation is a fully registered foundation in Thailand.

It is also a registered charity in the Netherlands under the name Stichting Soi Dog. The Dutch foundation exists purely to help with fund raising.

The foundation is run entirely by volunteers at their own expense but employs 12 full time local staff including veterinarians, clinic, and shelter staff.
Its aims and programs are:

1. To reduce the number of unwanted stray animals through humane sterilization, and to set an example to the rest of Thailand and the Asian region on how this can be achieved.

As of December 2008 over 21,000 animals have been sterilized on Phuket alone, leading to a significant drop in the stray animal population. It also carries out mobile clinics in the Khao Lak area and on islands where there is no veterinary care such as Koh Lanta and Koh Phi Phi.

2. To alleviate suffering of the remaining animals by:
• Providing a treatment and emergency response program
• Operating a feeding program in temples and other locations to keep dogs off the streets where they inevitably come into conflict with man.
• Providing a shelter and rehoming center for abused animals that for a variety of reasons cannot be returned to the streets.
• Running an education center at its shelter where local school children are taught the importance of responsible pet ownership and sterilization to prevent more unwanted animals.
